Today is my birthday, so I've drink a Miyokguk(Seaweed Soup). Miyokguk is an important symbol of birthday in Korea. It's important for both Mom and Child. Korean woman usually drink this soup a lot after giving birth.
Seaweed helps clean the whole body system and creates new blood.
You can't go wrong with this food. Seaweed is famous anti-cancer
agent and for reducing high blood pressure.
This is the recipe if you wanna try this at your birthday.
Cooking tips:
Beef, Shitake, or Egg can be added into the soup
for a richer taste.
Good soy sauce(국간장) makes good tasty soup.
Don't mix scallion with seaweed dish because its absorb calcium from seaweed.
Ingredients:
1. 미역(Miyok) - Seaweed/Brown Seaweed (2 cups),
2. Soup Stock (4 cups),
3. Chopped Garlic
(1 tsp),
4. Sesame Oil (1/2 tsp),
5. 국간장(GukGanJang) - Light Soy Sauce (1/2 tsp),
6. Salt (1/2 tsp),
7.Sesame seed for topping.
How to cook:
1. Soak the dried seaweed in a bowl of water until soft.
2. Clean the seaweed, squeeze out excess water and cut in 3 sections.
3. In a pot of boiling soup stock (4 cups), add chopped garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, pinch of salt and the cleaned seaweed. Bring to a boil.
4. Lower the heat and let the seaweed boil until very soft, about 5 minutes.
